Smoother baggage check-in at Stockholm Arlanda

2012-10-08, kl. 09:15

Departures will now be smoother at Stockholm Arlanda Airport as a result of a new, time-saving self-service solution for checking in baggage. The first airlines to offer the new service beginning October 10 are SAS and Norwegian Air Shuttle.

“We and the airlines have a common interest in simplifying travel. Self-service solutions are greatly appreciated, and this is a further step in finding and developing new solutions that simplify the flow at the airport and save valuable time for our passengers,” says Lena Rökaas, chief operating officer at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

The Self-Service Bag Drop is part of an investment in flexible, efficient automated solutions at Swedavia’s airports, along with automated check-in machines. The first automated bag drop is now being installed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s international terminal, Terminal 5, and this will be followed up with a number of installations next year at Swedavia’s airports.

Just as before, passengers will get their baggage tag from the automated check-in machine. These are located at the airport and its parking facilities but also at a growing number of train stations in the region. The baggage is then dropped off at the Self-Service Bag Drop counter, where passengers scan the bar code on their baggage tag and follow the simple step-by-step instructions shown on the touch screen.

Norwegian and SAS will also continue to provide a staffed Bag Drop counter for customers who want to use one. The supplier of the Self Service Bag Drop is the Norwegian company DSG Systems.
