Finnair to make major investment in Sweden with intercontinental service from Stockholm Arlanda – increased access to Asia and US

Finnair will expand its range of destinations on offer from Sweden for the first time, starting with the winter 2021 season. The carrier is expanding its service at Stockholm Arlanda and in addition to its flights to Helsinki will launch service to three intercontinental destinations, Bangkok, Phuket and Miami – which means nearly 15 new weekly departures from Arlanda.

Due to reduced traffic during the pandemic, Stockholm Arlanda currently has no service to Thailand or the US, and the new routes will complement the other destinations on offer at Arlanda. Thailand and Miami are both popular holiday destinations. The routes will be launched in time for the autumn break, when hopefully the situation will allow freer travel and we will once again be able to meet. The new direct routes will also increase the potential for faster transport of goods.

Starting October 22, Finnair will serve Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - New Bangkok International Airport (BKK) five times a week, before increasing to daily departures November 28.

Starting October 24, Finnair will serve Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Phuket International Airport (HKT) once a week to be gradually expanded to two weekly departures on November 4 followed by three weekly departures on December 30.

Starting October 23, Finnair will serve Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Miami International Airport (MIA) twice a week to increase the frequency to four weekly departures November 29. 

Finnair is part of the OneWorld airline alliance. By taking connecting flights offered through the alliance, Swedish passengers will have access from American Airlines’ hub at Miami International to the carrier’s other destinations on offer and travel easily to other parts of the US and Latin America.

Finnair will base three aircraft of the Airbus A350 type at Stockholm Arlanda. This aircraft type is among those with the lowest carbon footprint. Finnair has high sustainability goals, and its long-term goal is to be carbon-neutral by the end of 2045. Its first milestone is to reduce net emissions 50 per cent by the end of 2025 from 2019 levels, and the carrier is continuously increasing its use of sustainable aviation fuel.
