Göteborg Landvetter Airport to expand terminal northward

2018-02-27, kl. 08:50

Over the next few years, Swedavia will carry out a major expansion of Göteborg Landvetter Airport to meet the Gothenburg region's need for increased access. The expansion will take place in phases from the northern and southern sections of the airport terminal in order to handle increased passenger volume and help build the airport of the future.

2017 was another record year for Göteborg Landvetter Airport, which is now nearing seven million passengers annually. To ensure and improve capacity for baggage handling and security screening, Swedavia is developing the northern section of the terminal building.

The project, Terminal Expansion North, includes the construction of a new hotel connected to the terminal, a single security checkpoint for domestic and international passengers and a new baggage storage facility. The general contractor for the work in Peab and the hotel operator will be Scandic. The agreements were signed on Friday, February 23, 2018.

This turnkey assignment is in the form of a partnering project. In a partnering project, the client and the contractor give up their traditional roles and working methods and instead form a joint organisation with pooled finances and shared goals to increase trust between the parties and make the construction process more efficient.
"We have had fantastic passenger growth, and since 2012 volume has increased more than 40%," says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport. "Growing sustainably is an essential requirement for our operations. It is gratifying that, together with Peab, we will build a new baggage storage facility, security checkpoint and new environmentally-certified hotel, to be operated by Scandic and open in 2021."

"It is incredibly exciting and fun to be part of this and build one of Gothenburg's new landmarks. It feels especially good to run the project in collaboration with Swedavia, with us working together to find the best solutions for the project," says Stellan Haraldsson, regional manager of Peab, Construction West region.
