From January 2027, Swedavia will introduce a completely new charges model for airlines. Representing the most significant reform of its kind in Swedavia’s history, the new structure is designed to support domestic air connectivity while further strengthening Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s role as Sweden’s leading international hub.
“Sweden needs strong air connectivity, for both domestic and international travel. This is essential for Sweden’s economic growth and competitiveness, but also for bringing people together. To achieve this, we must continue developing Arlanda as the hub of our airport network and as Sweden’s leading international airport,” says Mats Johannesson, President and CEO of Swedavia.
From 2027 onwards, airlines offering frequent services between Arlanda and smaller airports will receive substantial discounts on landing and passenger charges. These discounts will apply to both domestic routes, such as Gothenburg, Malmö and Luleå, and international routes to destinations including Gdańsk and Bergen. At the same time, Swedavia’s existing incentive programmes for new routes and traffic growth will remain unchanged.
“With the new model, we can create stronger incentives for airlines investing in frequent connections to and from Arlanda. This will improve accessibility across Sweden and enhance opportunities for onward travel to destinations around the world. At the same time, we will continue supporting airlines that launch new routes or increase their services at our airports,” says Mats Johannesson.
The new model represents an investment of nearly SEK 1 billion by Swedavia over the next five years, in the form of discounts for airlines. The purpose is to strenghten the traffic development at Arlanda.
The new charges model will take effect on 1 January 2027.
