Swedavia’s traffic statistics for May 2019

During the month of May, 3,636,000 passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s ten airports, which is a 5 per cent decrease compared to the same month last year. The international travel increased at several of the airports. Figures were adversely affected even this month by the pilot strike at the beginning of the month.
The total number of international passengers at Swedavia’s airports was 2,480,000 in May, which is a 2 per cent decrease compared to the same month last year. The number of domestic passengers was 1,156,000, a decrease of 11 per cent.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s largest airport, had a total of 2,284,000 passengers in May, which is a 6 per cent decrease compared to the same month last year. The number of international passengers there was 1,844,000, which is a 4 per cent decrease, while the number of domestic passengers was 440,000, a decrease of 12 per cent.
At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, a total of 602,000 passengers flew in May, which is a 2 per cent decrease compared to the same month last year. The traffic trend was positively affected by a continued increase in international travel, which increased more than 2 per cent to 484,000 passengers. However, domestic travel decreased 16 per cent compared to the same month last year to 117,000 passengers.
At Bromma Stockholm Airport, a total of 240,000 passengers flew in May, which is a 3 per cent decrease compared to May last year. However, international travel increased a total of 30 per cent during the month compared to the same month last year.
In line with the traffic trend so far this year, Swedavia’s regional airports also showed local differences in travel patterns in May. Overall, international traffic increased 8 per cent at the company’s regional airports, whereas domestic traffic continued to decrease, declining 9 per cent. Malmö Airport saw the biggest increase in international travel, with a 14 per cent increase.
For many years, Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work. All ten of its airports shall have zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from their own operations by 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to bio fuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025. Since 2016, Swedavia purchases bio fuel equivalent to the amount used for the company’s flights for business purposes, about 450 tonnes a year.
