Wizz Air to launch new route to Vienna from Malmö Airport
The Hungarian carrier Wizz Air continues to expand its service from Malmö Airport. Next year a new route to Vienna, the capital of Austria, will be launched. The maiden flight is planned for March 22, 2019, and there will be four weekly flights between the two cities.
Vienna is located in the heart of Europe, with the Danube River flowing through the city. This capital city – known for its sweeping waltzes and magnificent opera balls, beautiful buildings and historic café culture – will be Wizz Air's first destination in Austria from Sweden. The carrier already flies from Malmö to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Serbia.
"We are proud that we can introduce another exciting capital city in the range of destinations available from Malmö Airport. Naturally, we also hope that many new visitors can take advantage of the short flying time to explore the natural beauty of Skåne and the city of Malmö, which abounds with good restaurants and cosy cafés," said Peter Weinhandl, Airport Director at Malmö Airport.
"After the opening of our Vienna base this June, in just nine months we'll expand our operations to five based aircraft with a local team with more than 200 direct employees, while growing our low-fare network to 27 routes. We are creating new opportunities for Austrian customers to visit some of the most beautiful cities and regions in Europe," said George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer at Wizz Air.
Flying time between Malmö and Vienna is estimated to be about 1 hour and 50 minutes. Departures will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
