Entry Exit System - new border control system for non-EU Nationals

Travellers affected by the Entry Exit System must present their passport and any other permits, and must provide a facial image and fingerprints when crossing the external borders of the Schengen area. The information is recorded in an individual file together with the time and place of entry or exit.

The Entry Exit System (EES) is a new border control system that records all entries and exits of non-EU citizens when crossing the external borders of the Schengen area. The Entry Exit System replaces manual passport stamps and is intended to digitize and strengthen border security within the EU.

The Entry Exit System will be implemented as of 12 October 2025 and may differ across EU countries. At Sweden's borders - for example, at airports with international traffic - the Entry Exit System will apply to all non-EU citizens starting 12 October.

This means that if you are a citizen of a country outside the EU, you must present your passport and other relevant permits as usual - but you must also provide a facial photo and fingerprints when you pass through border control at the airport. The Swedish Police will record the information in a personal file along with the time and place of your entry or exit.

Save time by pre-registering on the Travel to Europe app

If you are travelling to Sweden, you can prepare for border crossing by recording some of your information in advance. Pre-registration can shorten your wait time at border control.

Pre-registration of data is done in the Travel To Europe app, which will be available for download 12 October. Pre-registration should be done in advance of your departure date when travelling to Sweden.

Find your way - follow the ‘All other passports’ signs

During the period that the new system is introduced, waiting times may be longer at passport control. It is therefore important that you follow the correct signs at the airport. As a non-EU national, you should follow the 'All passports' or 'All other passports' signs to the correct line.
