Chemicals
Most of the chemicals used at Malmö Airport are paints, adhesives, cleaning agents and other common household products. However, running an airport also requires some chemicals that are unique.
One of them is aviation fuel, which is the largest category of chemicals found at the airport. In the winter, it is also necessary to use other chemicals to keep the aircraft and runways free from ice. Propylene glycol mixed with warm water is used to de-ice the aircraft, while potassium acetate and urea are used to clear the runways.
Cisterns and tanks containing oil or chemicals are sheathed to prevent leakage. Furthermore, analysis of soil and water is carried out regularly in and around the airport as a form of additional control. If a leakage or spillage occurs at the airport, the on-site emergency services that operate round the clock will immediately commence sanitation procedures
