Report on Stockholm’s air transport capacity to be presented
In December 2014, the Swedish government appointed a state coordinator to investigate the issue of Stockholm’s air transport capacity and housing needs in the country’s capital. The investigation has resulted in a report which has now been submitted to the government.
“Both Swedavia and the government’s coordination proceed from the assumption that Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s development potential is to be enhanced in the long term while also factoring in development potential well beyond 2040,” says Karl Wistrand, president and CEO of Swedavia.
The coordination work that has been carried out highlights a number of important issues concerning the future mostly of Stockholm Arlanda Airport – in particular the need for long-term conditions essential to Stockholm’s airport capacity as well as investments in roads and railways around Stockholm Arlanda and how they are to be funded.
“At the same time, we must naturally also continue to develop Bromma Stockholm Airport to ensure that alternative actions are possible in the future,” Mr Wistrand notes.
Swedavia will now continue its work with in-depth analyses of a fourth runway at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Alongside this, major investments are being carried out to expand Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter Airport to handle increased international air traffic.
