Continued rise in passenger volume at Swedavia's airports

During the first quarter of 2017, passenger volume at Swedavia's airports increased six per cent compared to the same period last year. A total of 9,074,000 passengers flew to or from the Group's airports during the period January to March. Nine of Swedavia's ten airports posted higher passenger figures during the first quarter compared to the same period last year.

In March, a total of 3,363,000 passengers flew to or from Swedavia's airports, which is a six per cent increase compared to the same month last year.
The number of international passengers rose five per cent. A total of 2,077,000 passengers flew internationally in March, which is a five per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

Domestic passage volume at Swedavia's airports increased eight per cent, with a total of 1,286,000 passengers flying to or from Swedavia's airports to elsewhere in Sweden.
Swedavia's two biggest airports saw passenger increases in March compared to the same month last year. More than 2,100,000 passengers flew to or from Stockholm Arlanda Airport in March this year, which is a six per cent increase. At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, 509,000 passengers flew to or from the airport, which is a three per cent increase compared to March last year.

In March, the greatest percentage increase in passenger volume was at Bromma Stockholm Airport and Ronneby Airport, which both saw growth of eleven per cent. These increases are due in part to when the Easter holiday falls during the year. Despite these factors, the passenger trend was positive at both airports.

Other passenger increases in March were recorded at:

  • Bromma Stockholm Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of eleven per cent (to 230,300)
  • Kiruna Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of eight per cent (to 30,400 passengers)
  • Luleå Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of seven per cent (to 108,000 passengers)
  • Malmö Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of three per cent (to 183,000 passengers)
  • Ronneby Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of eleven per cent (to 23,000 passengers)
  • Visby Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of nine per cent (to 33,000 passengers)
  • Åre Östersund Airport, which had a total increase in passenger volume of seven per cent (to 56,300 passengers)

The three most popular international destinations to and from Stockholm Arlanda Airport were Copenhagen, London and Oslo, and from Göteborg Landvetter Airport the three most popular international destinations were London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
