New atmosphere with sustainable design in the airport’s departure hall

2013-03-05, kl. 13:00

Sustainability, creativity and design have characterised the remodelling work for the departure hall at Åre Östersund Airport. Passengers will now encounter a brand-new setting.

On Thursday, February 28, the new departure hall at Åre Östersund Airport was inaugurated. The idea behind the work was to highlight, among other things, the airport’s focus on sustainability and the creativity that can be found in the region.

A welcoming atmosphere is created through lighting adapted to the area as well as specially designed furniture, developed in partnership with the outdoor activities store Klättermusen and Green Furniture, Sweden, which produces sustainable design furniture. Furniture is woven from left-over fabric in the form of reused jackets.

“The airport plays an important role as a hub, and we are especially pleased to be in a meeting place that showcases our talented entrepreneurs and companies in the region. Now our passengers can experience an atmosphere that is both stylish and sustainable when they are headed off on a journey,” says Susanne Norman, airport director at Åre Östersund Airport.
