Half-year statistics from Malmö Airport
917,200 passengers flew to and from Malmö Airport during the first half of 2011, an increase of 21 percent compared with the same period in 2010. Overseas traffic increased by 11 percent and domestic flights were up 27 percent.
The number of landings also increased during the first six months of this year. In scheduled services and charter operations, there were more than 9,727 landings, an increase of 4 percent.
“The first half of 2011 started very strongly for Wizz Air, which rose by 21 percent compared with the same period in 2010,” says Peter Weinhandl, airport director at Malmö Airport. The destinations that Wizz Air flies to are all doing well, particularly Belgrade which was introduced just before the end of the year.
In June there were a total of 168,677 passengers, an increase of 12 percent compared with the same month last year. Overseas traffic increased by 8 percent while domestic flights expanded by 15 percent.
The increase in overseas flights in June stems among other things from the fact that business is going well for Wizz Air, the budget airline that in June celebrated its millionth passenger from Malmö Airport since it started operations in 2004.
