2013-11-06, kl. 15:16

The trend toward greater air travel from Luleå Airport is holding. In October, 101,530 people flew to or from the airport, which is an increase of 3 per cent compared to the same period in 2012. Domestic and international traffic have both seen growth.

The total increase for the first ten months of the year is 2 per cent, and the number of passengers is 930,208 so far this year compared to 2012, when that figure was 914,026.

“Both domestic and international traffic are on the rise, which we are really pleased about, and we will continue to work to get more destinations from Luleå Airport,” says Ann-Christin Viklund, airport director at Luleå Airport.

The number of international passengers in October was 6,247, an increase of 29 per cent compared to the same month last year, when 4,845 travelled via the airport. So far this year, 82,551 international passengers have flown to or from Luleå Airport.

There was a 2 per cent rise in domestic passengers in October compared to the same month last year, an increase from 93,496 to 95,283. For the period January-October 2013, domestic traffic was up 1 per cent, an increase from 841,323 to 847,657 passengers.

“The increase in domestic traffic is a positive sign indicating that businesses in the region are doing well. Now that the refurbishment work is reaching completion, we are looking forward to inaugurating the new modern Luleå Airport on December 5. After being a construction site for one and a half years, the airport is almost ready to meet our passengers’ needs with efficient, smooth flows and an updated setting,” Ms Viklund adds.
