Compared to September last year, domestic traffic was up 5 per cent, from 85,673 to 90,194 passengers. International traffic saw an increase of 11 per cent, from 14,341 to 15,849 passengers.
“Traditionally, September is usually a strong month for traffic, since domestic travel increases after the summer period, especially for business travel. It was a very good summer for the airport, which experienced a sharp rise in international traffic. Luleå Airport is growing as a result of more and more people choosing to get to and from the region by air. The airport is an important growth engine in the region,” says Ann-Christin Viklund, airport director.
A total of 828,807 passengers passed through Luleå Airport during the period January-September this year. That is an increase of 2 per cent compared to the same period last year, when the figure was 815,530 passengers. International traffic increased 12 per cent during this period, from 67,858 to 76,304 passengers. Domestic traffic is on par with last year’s level, up 1 per cent from 747,672 to 752,503 passengers.
