During the first quarter of 2016, 276,342 passengers flew to or from Luleå Airport compared to the same period last year, when the figure was 263,711. Domestic traffic was up 6 per cent (to 260,235 passengers), while international traffic fell 8 per cent (to 16,107 passengers).
The beginning of the year saw sharp growth in air traffic. Flying is a time-efficient, comfortable and reliable form of transport, and it is clear that this access is important to this part of Sweden.
“Air travel continues its positive trend, especially in domestic traffic. This year, we have had two very popular departures to Jamaica and Mauritius, which reflects the growing increase in new, exciting destinations during the winter. Next year, we have Krabi (Thailand) and the Dominican Republic as new destinations from Luleå Airport. We are now heading for summer, and the new destination this year is Sardinia, with a May departure,” says Ann-Christin Viklund, airport director at Luleå Airport.
Luleå Airport is now also the second airport in Sweden to offer an SAS Café Lounge (inaugurated on April 7).
