Yamal Airlines to begin non-stop service Moscow - Gothenburg

2012-04-20, kl. 10:17

Western Sweden is now getting a non-stop service to Moscow. Beginning May 21, Yamal Airlines will fly three times a week from Göteborg Landvetter Airport to Moscow Domodedovo Airport in Moscow.

“Naturally, we are delighted and proud that we can now offer non-stop service to the wonderful capital of Russia. This shows that there is great interest in our region outside Sweden,” says Olle Sundin, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

Swedavia - Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Göteborg & Co, Visit Sweden, the West Sweden Tourist Board and Business Region Göteborg are collaborating in the regional network Göteborg Access to develop route offerings and opportunities for travel to Gothenburg and western Sweden. Non-stop service to Moscow is another example of how this partnership has been productive.

“There has long been a strong desire for service to Russia from our business partners. A large and exciting market is now opening up for our destination,” says Sabine Söndergaard, CEO of Göteborg & Co.

Yamal Airlines will operate Bombardier CRJ 200 aircraft with seating for 50 passengers to Moscow Domodedovo Airport, which is Russia’s largest airport in terms of passenger numbers. In 2011 some 25 million passengers travelled to and from the airport, which offers connections to over 200 destinations both domestically and internationally.

Yamal Airlines was formed in 1997 and has its main office in the Siberian city of Salekhard. The carrier flies to almost 40 destinations and has 55 aircraft in its fleet. Göteborg Landvetter Airport will now be the airline’s first destination to Western Europe.

“Yamal Airlines is in the program to increase its fleet and expand the network of international new routes. May 21st a direct scheduled flight to Gothenburg opens. We are delighted to offer our passengers a high quality service and convenient schedule and ability to carry flight out of Domodedovo to more than 200 destinations with our own and our partner’s flights. The direct air services will open new opportunities for tourism and business. ”, says Andrew Dubrov, CFO Yamal Airlines.
