There will be six departures a week to Britain’s second largest city from Gothenburg, the Swedish equivalent. bmi regional will operate the route using Embraer 145 type aircraft with seating for 49 passengers.
“It feels both good and important that we have the opportunity to offer our passengers non-stop service to Britain’s second largest city alongside our three London routes and Manchester route,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.
The new service between Birmingham and Gothenburg is part of a drive by bmi regional that also includes new routes to Toulouse and Lyon, France.
“bmi regional’s choice of destinations is based on demand from both business and leisure passengers. Gothenburg, with important industries in the motor vehicle and high tech sectors, is a perfect choice for bmi regional. The city also has an attractive offering of cultural activities, trendy shopping and a rapidly growing reputation as a real gourmet town,” says Cathal O’Connell, chief executive of bmi regional.
The carrier bmi regional has focused on routes suitable for smaller aircraft type in Britain as well as other destinations in Europe. bmi regional’s fleet consists of 14 Embraer 145 type aircraft and four Embraer 137.
The Göteborg Landvetter Airport – Birmingham route will start operating on May 13, 2013, and tickets can be purchased beginning February 5, including at www.bmiregional.com.
