Love is in the air – airport weddings at West Pride 2014

2014-04-11, kl. 12:20

Love is in the air when West Pride gets under way – perhaps this year, more than usual. Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Swedavia are offering drop-in weddings during the festival.

Swedavia and Göteborg Landvetter Airport have worked together with the pride festival celebrating the LGBT community for a number of years. At West Pride, which takes place in Gothenburg this year from May 28 to June 1, the airport will host drop-in weddings in Rainbow Park (Bältesspännarparken) on Saturday, May 31, between 2 and 6 p.m.

“We want to be a role model in sustainable development and work actively so everyone has equal rights. Therefore, it is natural for us to take an active part in West Pride. Since we hold weddings for about 150 people a year at Göteborg Landvetter and same-sex marriages can be performed at any Swedavia airport, it is really fun for us to have this opportunity at West Pride this year,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

The three people who will officiate weddings in Rainbow Park are Susanne Norman, director of Swedavia’s regional airports, Lars Gårdfeldt, a minister and deputy chair of West Pride, and Cathrina Stålklint, a minister.

“I am looking forward to performing weddings at West Pride. Being part of people’s day of love as a wedding officiator is a wonderful experience. I have never performed the ceremony at a pride festival before, so it will be really fun,” says airport director Susanne Norman.

“We are very pleased that Swedavia will give our visitors the chance of a drop-in wedding during the festival and hope that many people will take the opportunity to say ‘I do’. The weddings are guaranteed to be a well appreciated activity in Rainbow Park,” says Thomas Johnsson, press officer for West Pride, while encouraging anyone who is interested to apply for a certificate of no impediment to marriage well in advance.

Since 2012, Swedavia has taken part in pride festivals throughout Sweden in order to support the fight for equal rights for everyone, with the support of the LGBT community being an important part of this. Participation in West Pride is one way of showing that Swedavia is an employer that embraces diversity, given the company’s conviction that people’s differences enrich us and result in good business.

Many people have discovered the possibility of getting married at the airport. At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, some 150 people exchange wedding vows each year, often just before leaving for their honeymoon. Weddings at Göteborg Landvetter Airport are performed in partnership with Airport VIP Service to guarantee an extraordinary experience.

For anyone who would like to take the opportunity to get married during West Pride, practical information about the necessary preparations and contact details are available at www.westpride.se.
