On Wednesday, June 19, construction officially began on the new McDonald’s restaurant near the entrance to Göteborg Landvetter Airport. The restaurant will be set up adjacent to the OKQ8 petrol station being built on the same site. McDonald’s, OKQ8, the Municipality of Härryda and Swedavia all took part in the groundbreaking ceremony. The first shovel of earth was turned together, with construction constituting the kick-off for the new commercial area Airport City.
“It is a pleasure to have McDonald’s and OKQ8 as the first companies to set up operations at the entrance to Airport City. Today there is no commercial area available to people travelling between Gothenburg and Borås, and we believe it will attract many people in the area, those travelling by both car and plane,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Swedavia.
“We are pleased that we are able to officially launch construction of the restaurant, which is expected to be completed in late October. The restaurant has an excellent location along Route 40, the main artery between Gothenburg and Borås, and close to Göteborg Landvetter Airport,” says Kjell-Arne Forsberg, Northern Europe development director at McDonald’s.
The restaurant will have about 400 square metres of space and be equipped with a two-lane McDrive. The restaurant is expected to provide about 55 new jobs. OKQ8 is building a new petrol station next to the restaurant which will open this winter.
