Göteborg Landvetter starts the year with an increase in air traffic

2015-02-05, kl. 09:00

Statistics for the first month of the year show a 9 per cent increase in passengers who flew to or from Göteborg Landvetter Airport. The increase is due in part to the airport taking over traffic from Göteborg City Airport.

A total of 399,841 people flew to or from Göteborg Landvetter in January, which is a 9 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2014. It is also the highest volume for the month of January at the airport.

“We started out the year with a rapid change in the traffic picture, given the situation with Göteborg City Airport. With more passengers and a larger offering, Göteborg Landvetter Airport’s importance for the region’s access has grown. This has also increased the importance of upcoming negotiations for our environmental permit, the future rail link and our planned capital spending for our terminal,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

The number of international passengers was up 15 per cent to 303,932 in January 2015 compared to last year. This is partly due to traffic with Ryanair and Wizz Air, which account for the large increase.

Domestic traffic fell 7 per cent in January, which is partly explained by the large number of holidays and bridge days during the month. The number of people who flew domestically in January was 95,909.

The number of landings was up 6 per cent to 2,487 during the first month of the year compared to the same period last year.
