Swedavia’s ten airports will introduce the new EU rules, thus complying with the regulations issued by the Swedish Transport Agency, the oversight authority for security matters at Sweden’s airports.
This means that random checks will be carried out on passengers’ hand baggage in conjunction with security screening. The check will be carried out using an explosive trace detector (ETD).
Passengers, who will be chosen randomly, should place their hand baggage on a table in order for a sample to be taken using the ETD, known as a sniffer. The check is quick, with the objective being to have as little an impact on the passenger flow as possible.
ETD checks are already carried out at airports in both the UK and the US.
