The Clock Tower (Saat Kulesi)
Izmir´s most iconic landmark, the Saat Kulesi was donated to the city by German Emperor Wilhelm II and it is an excellent example of Ottoman architecture. No visit would be complete without a photograph next to the majestic monument.
Archaeology Museum
Situated in Konak, the bustling heart of the city, the museum houses magnificent exhibits dating back to the Greeks and the Romans´ dominion. The extensive statutory includes impressive bronzes and marble statues; along with the ancient coins and glass collection it is certainly a major draw for tourists.

An ancient Greek settlement, Ephesus is one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in the Eastern Mediterranean. The splendor of the ruins reflect the marvelous long-gone era of the artistic Greek domination, transporting the astonished traveler back in time. A perfect day trip solution, Ephesus is located only an hour-ride away from Izmir.
Izmir’s very own castle, founded under Alexander the Great´s dominion and strategically located up Pagos Hill, affords great views over the city and the bay. At sunset, the call to prayer echoes throughout the city, reverberating in a show of Izmir´s soul. Linked to the center by a bus line, it is also ideal for a suggestive hike.
Adnan Menderes Airport
The airport is 18 km southwest of the city centre and can be reached by a number of methods. Buses leave from the THY stand at Menderes airport and drop off at the THY terminal in the Buyek Efes hotel on Gaziosmanpasa Bulvari. Every 20 – 30 min. The journey takes 30 mins. You can take a taxi from Menderes airport to the city centre. Menderes airport – Alsancak train station, laves on the hour, but has rather unreliable service.
Public Transport
Dolmus are minibuses that act as a collective, less expensive taxi service. Flag these down in the street. Minimal charge. Ferries shuttle between Konak and Alsancak. The return crossing takes 1 hr 15 mins. The metro is probably the least effective way of getting around Izmir 1YTL. Promenade along Izmir’s waterfront boulevard, the Birinci Kordon in a calèche (horsedrawn carriage), carriages congregate near the Pasaport pier. 20YTL
