In conjunction with the launch of the shopping bags, the works will also be on display in a mobile gallery set up at different locations in the international and domestic terminals.
Shopping bags to be a living gallery
“Our idea is to make shopping bags a living gallery, where we exhibit some of Sweden’s most gifted illustrators and artists. We are proud of the talent found in Sweden, and few places have the same flow of people from around the world that airports do. In this way, every passenger who shops will be able to take a bit of art with them,” says Roel Huinink, managing director of Arlanda Schiphol Development Company AB (ASDC), which operates and develops retail, food and beverages, and commercial services at Stockholm Arlanda as well as Göteborg Landvetter Airport.
Passengers have a chance to win a graphic print
The mobile exhibition will be running at the airport for one month. Graphic prints of the illustrations on the bags, a brief description of the illustrator and their thinking behind the illustrations will also be on display. In addition, passengers can take part in a competition to win a graphic print. The artists were commissioned to interpret Sweden or Stockholm, and their sources of inspiration could include architecture, flora and fauna, Swedish customs, music, fashion or design.
