Pack properly and get a head start on your winter holiday trip

2014-02-18, kl. 10:56

This weekend, the annual winter sport holiday week begins in Stockholm, which means heavy traffic on winter sport flights from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. We urge you to get to the airport early and think carefully about how to pack properly while you are still at home.

Traffic will be heavier on Thursday and Friday, but Saturday, February 22, will be the big travel day.

The difference compared to “sun charters” is that a ski charter involves so much more baggage, in the form of winter clothing and ski equipment. Passengers are simply urged to get to the airport early. It is better to have a little extra time at the airport and have a relaxing cup of coffee before your flight than begin your sport holiday all stressed out.

Some good advice for faster check-in and security screening:

  • No sharp objects should be carried in your hand baggage, and avoid items containing liquids as much as possible. Those should be packed in your check-in baggage.
  • Prepare for security screening by placing all small items such as your mobile phone, coins and other objects in your outer garment or sport jacket, which will then be X-rayed. Take off these garments while still in the queue. If you have a computer with you, this must be removed from its case and placed separately on the conveyor belt. These preparations save several seconds, which add up to several minutes for people standing at the end of the queue.
  • Skis and other bulky baggage must be dropped off at the special check-in counter, where you will need to show your boarding card.
  • Please note that your special baggage will arrive on a separate conveyor when you fly back to Stockholm Arlanda.
