The Supreme Court today decided not to hear the leaves to appeal from the three parties appealing the Land and Environmental Court’s ruling on a new environmental permit for Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
“The decision means that the positive trend for Swedish connectivity can continue and that Stockholm Arlanda Airport can take further steps to be the leading airport in Scandinavia. This is naturally very gratifying and important news for all of Sweden,” says Torborg Chetkovich, chief executive of Swedavia.
With the Supreme Court upholding the Land and Environmental Court’s ruling, the ban on approaches to Stockholm Arlanda’s Runway 3 has been nullified once and for all.
According to the new ruling, approach procedures that avoid the built-up portions of Upplands Väsby will be used as much as possible without affecting the airport’s capacity and taking into consideration regulations for air traffic management, aviation safety and weather conditions.
Swedavia will invest 13 billion Swedish kronor over the next ten years to ensure and develop access to and from Sweden via Stockholm Arlanda Airport, in line with expected passenger growth at the airport.
