Electric car-friendly at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

2014-02-06, kl. 12:16

Twelve new parking spaces with charging posts next to Terminal 2 are the latest addition in Stockholm Arlanda’s offering for electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The airport now provides as many as 82 parking spaces with charging facilities, with the opportunity to park and charge at no cost. That means carbon dioxide savings since June 2012 now total almost 16 metric tons.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s investment in charging posts for electric cars continues. The Beta low-price parking facility has added 20 charging posts to the 20 already there. Outside Terminal 5, the number of charging posts has been increased to a total of 20. Now the first twelve charging posts outside Terminal 2 have been added.

A growing number of electric car owners are offered the opportunity to charge their vehicles at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. When people charge their electric car at Stockholm Arlanda, they currently park for free, which means visitors save on both energy and parking costs. And there are great benefits for the environment; since June 2012, electric car owners have charged for almost 18,500 kilowatt-hours, thus saving more than 15.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

“With these additional spaces, Stockholm Arlanda Airport very likely has the most extensive offering for all electric car owners,” says Johan Lindsten, ground transport manager at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

There are also charging facilities at Stockholm Arlanda’s taxi stand, where taxi companies are free to charge their electric-hybrid vehicles at no charge.

The charging posts are part of the airport’s work to limit carbon dioxide emissions. Environmentally classified cars are also given precedence in the airport’s parking facilities, where they park in the best spaces.
