Car pooling is a quick, convenient way for people to complete their air journey by car. People can book their car by clicking on a few buttons in an app, and no keys are necessary when they pick up the car. As a member of Sunfleet, people book and open their car using an app in their mobile phone or a smartcard. Then it’s simply a matter of driving off.
“Car sharing via a car pool is big in Europe and will also be really big at our Swedish airports. Many people need access to a car for a few hours when they land at a destination, so a car pool, where users pay by the hour, is a really good and environmentally sustainable travel option,” says Birgitta Moreillon, product manager for airport parking at Swedavia.
Sunfleet is the largest car pool in Sweden, with more than 1,000 cars at over 350 car pool locations in some 40 cities and towns. The number of members is growing by about 20 per cent a year, and today there are just over 31,000 members.
“We already have locations near the main train stations in Sweden. The fact that we can now have our car pool operations at airports is an important component in our being able to offer a comprehensive travel solution. This gives further incentive for people to start car pooling,” says Peter Algurén, CEO of Sunfleet.
Sunfleet will initially keep four Volvo cars at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, two at Göteborg Landvetter Airport and two at Malmö Airport. All cars are classified as “green” or environmentally friendly. Sunfleet already operates at Visby Airport. The aim is to expand this partnership to more airports in the next phase.
