Waste management at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

All waste generated at Stockholm Arlanda is sorted at source. Only about 1 per cent of the total amount goes to landfills.

Most companies that operate at the airport participate in a comprehensive at-source sorting system and may sort their waste into more than ten categories. A large proportion of all waste generated at the airport is a resource that can be reused, recycled or burned (to generate energy). Hazardous waste is handled separately so that toxic substances are not spread.

The goal is more recycling

At Stockholm Arlanda only a very small percentage of sorted waste goes to landfills. The goal is to keep this figure low. Another objective is to send a larger proportion of sorted waste for material recycling instead of combustion.
