    Ground was broken today for Stockholm Arlanda’s new airport maintenance area. Modern, functional and environmentally sensitive maintenance facilities are now being built for the airport’s vehicles as part of Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s development plans.

    On Friday, the Swedish and US governments signed a bilateral agreement to introduce US border control at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. In conjunction, Swedavia signed an agreement with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on how this function will be handled at the airport.

    SAS will expand service to and from Kiruna Airport by 30 per cent in its Winter timetable. Five new arrivals and departures a week will be added on the direct route between Kiruna and Stockholm Arlanda Airport, which offers connecting flights to destinations around the world. The new timetable will go into effect on Monday, October 31.

    Jonas Abrahamsson has been appointed new President and CEO of Swedavia. At his admission, Jonas Abrahamsson will leave his current position as CEO at E.ON in Sweden and Nordics.

    Swedavia is now taking further steps in its vision for fossil-free domestic air travel in Sweden. Fly Green Fund has been delegated the task of delivering renewable aviation fuel to Swedavia’s airports, the equivalent of the company’s employee business travel. The venture is worth SEK 10 M a year, leading to reductions in fossil carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to 1,400 tonnes every year.

    Swedavia is today launching an incentive programme for airlines that invest in renewable fuel. Through the programme, airlines can get financial aid to fund the additional cost that the purchase of renewable aviation fuel entails today.

    In three years, the number of passengers flying between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and the United States has grown by almost 60 per cent to more than one million passengers a year. As a result, traffic to the US has increased twice as fast as other international traffic from Arlanda. Now it will grow even further, as SAS today launches its new direct route from Stockholm to Los Angeles.

    The Swedish airport operator Swedavia and Capital Airports Holding Company (CAH), the largest airport operator in China, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Establishment of A Sister Airport Relationship in Beijing on 24th February 2016. The MOU establishes a collaboration between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and the biggest airport in Asia, Beijing Capital International Airport.

    Stockholm Arlanda Airport has now installed 31 defibrillators and trained its staff in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). As a result, Stockholm Arlanda is the first Nordic airport to become a eart-safe Heart-Safe Zone. “Our aim is to be on the scene with a defibrillator within three minutes of being alerted that someone is in cardiac arrest.”
