Swedavia awarded for its forward-thinking initiative

Aviation Academy – an industry event for decision-makers in the aviation sector – was held on February 7. The day ended with Swedavia being given this year’s Sigma Aviation Award “for its dedicated environmental work to achieve and maintain carbon-neutral airports with good profitability”.

Speakers from organisations such as SAAB, LFV, TUI Nordic, Thomas Cook and Swedavia shared their innovative initiatives and solutions.

Bringing the day to a close, the Sigma Aviation Award was handed out to the most forward-thinking project and initiative in 2012 in the field of aviation. The winning initiative is supposed to help enhance business potential for the company or the industry as a whole.

This year’s prize went to Swedavia. Of 16 airports in Europe with the highest level of certification according to the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme, as many as ten of these are Swedavia’s. Swedavia was given the Sigma Aviation Award 2013 for its dedicated environmental work to achieve and maintain carbon-neutral airports with good profitability. 

Kjell-Åke Westin, Swedavia, airport director of Stockholm Arlanda, received the prize from Erik Helsing, who is head of Aviation at Sigma.

“It is a great honour and now confirmation that we are on the right path in our proactive environmental work,” says a proud Mr Westin.
