In August, more than 3.2 million passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s airports. The total number of passengers was thus eight per cent higher compared to August last year. Measured in passenger volume, that corresponds to an increase of just over 220,000. The number of international passengers was 2.2 million, an increase of a full nine per cent compared to the same month last year. Domestically, 997,000 passengers flew during the period, an increase of five per cent compared to the same month last year.
So far this year, domestic travel is up six per cent compared to the first eight months of 2013.
“International travel has increased for a number of years, in part because we have managed to encourage more airlines to invest in new non-stop routes. At the same time, we see a very positive trend in domestic travel,” says Torborg Chetkovich, chief executive of Swedavia.
So far in 2014, the number of passengers at Swedavia’s airports is up eight per cent to 23.6 million. The number of international passengers has increased nine per cent to 15.2 million while the number of domestic passengers has increased six per cent to 8.4 million.
The number of landings in scheduled and charter operations during the year is up four per cent to almost 134,000 compared to the same period last year.
