Record numbers are flying via Stockholm Arlanda – more than 20 million passengers in 2013

Swedavia and Stockholm Arlanda Airport have congratulated the 20 millionth passenger this year. This is the third straight year that Swedavia has set a record for the number of passengers travelling via Stockholm Arlanda. In 2012 there were 19.6 million passengers, with 14.8 million of these international. And now the 20 million mark has been passed for 2013.

The number of passengers flying to and from Stockholm Arlanda is on the rise, with record numbers in both 2011 and 2012 – and now this year as well. The strong growth is due to a combination of greater demand for air travel and a wider selection of routes available. To meet this demand, Swedavia has carried out significant measures during the year to expand and develop Stockholm Arlanda. And these efforts will continue.

“We are pleased that Stockholm Arlanda is developing and continuing to grow. We are now taking this 20 million mark as our starting point and look forward to welcoming even more passengers,” says Kjell-Åke Westin, airport director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

The 20 millionth passenger was Susanne Lundberg from Sollentuna, outside Stockholm. Together with her husband Lars and their children Kalle, Sara and Emma, she was greeted by airport director Kjell-Åke Westin, who awarded her a prize, vouchers worth ten thousand Swedish kronor, to be used for shopping at the airport. The family was on their way to Tobago for a two-week holiday when they were surprised at the security checkpoint.

“That was really fun and a big surprise. It felt like being in a TV series,” recalls Susanne Lundberg, who together with her family hurried on their way to squeeze in some shopping before they boarded their plane.

Passenger numbers at Stockholm Arlanda for the past four years:
2010: 16,962 129 passengers
2011: 19,063,517 passengers
2012: 19,641,805 passengers
So far in 2013: 20,000,000 passengers
