Luleå Airport set a new passenger record in 2016. The new record is 1,197,550 passengers, which is a 2 per cent increase since 2015.

"We are really proud at Luleå Airport that we have once again set a new passenger record. Air travel means a great deal for our region. The possibility of travelling smoothly bolsters business while at the same time it is important to have good access to the rest of Sweden and the world for our leisure travellers," says Ann-Christin Viklund, airport director at Luleå Airport.

For Luleå Airport, travel increased a total of 2 per cent, from 1,177,518 passengers in 2015 to 1,197,550 in 2016. Domestic traffic volume increased 4 per cent to 1,107,759, while international traffic was down 17 per cent.

"It is really great to see how travel here in Luleå continues to increase. We know that we are important to our entire region and this reinforces our desire to increase capacity and work further with route development. Naturally, it is also gratifying that Luleå Airport has been able to introduce new charter destinations this year as well, such as Mauritius, Vietnam and Cape Verde," says Ann-Christin Viklund, airport director at Luleå Airport.

Seven of Swedavia's ten airports set a new passenger record for the full-year 2016.
