Assistance service for children travelling alone

Children can travel without the company of an adult from the age of five years old, and the majority of airlines offer an assistance service for children between five and eleven years of age.

Assistance service means that children are:

  • taken care of before the flight, and escorted to the aircraft
  • given special attention and assistance in the case of delays or other disruptions
  • met by personnel at the gate

The airline requires that the child is collected and left by a named person at each airport.

If you are leaving the child, you will be asked to assist with check-in formalities, and remain at the airport until the aircraft has taken off.

Book well in advance with the airline

Check with the airline if the service incurs a fee, and what rules apply to your child's trip. It is important to book the flight in advance as the number of unaccompanied children per flight is limited.

Loan of prams

The majority of airlines request that prams are checked in. If you need a pram after checking in, there are prams that can be loaned in the check-in hall or in the international departure hall.

Playground

At Göteborg Landvetter Airport there are playgrounds in the international departure halls by gate 19, and in the transfer area to and from destinations outside of Schengen.

Baby changing room

Baby changing rooms are located in both the men's and women's toilets.
